Everyone can experience anxiety. It is a type of mental health issue in which panic attacks, fear, nervousness, and worrying happen. Some people may think that it is a joke but they are wrong. It can be a disorder that individuals should be treated seriously.
Months of Isolation from family, relatives, and friends
There are times in our lives when we want to escape from reality. A situation where our minds are seeking peace. However, when it’s about isolation we know that there’s something wrong inside us. It’s like we don’t want to talk with anyone, even to our family, relatives, and friends. Random thoughts revolve around us until we realize that anxiety makes us feel alone, afraid, and nervous.
For instance, I isolated myself from my family for months during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. I didn’t know what happened but my mind kept telling me to stay away from them. I felt like they were judging me and I experienced the feeling of being so sensitive to my surroundings.
Hallucinations
Anxiety is not only a mere feeling but also causes hallucinations.
a. Seeing frightening visuals
As I experienced this kind of mental issue, I saw images that did not really exist in reality. Scary eyes suddenly appeared on my walls at midnight. I thought this kind of scenario was just fictional that we see in horror films or series. Based on my research, it is called visual hallucinations which cause a person to see things, animals, or people that are not real.
b. Hearing sounds inside your mind
On the other hand, I heard noises such as random voices that I don’t exactly know where it came from. Like a ghost whispering in my ears and demons who are pushing me to do bad things. It was terrifying wherein I was trying to distract myself in spite of my anxious mind. Meanwhile, Calmclinic wrote that auditory hallucinations cause individuals to hear something, especially happens to people who have anxiety and believe they are hallucinating.
This leads to depression
Without noticing the situation, our anxiety worsens and can lead us to depression. Our minds will haunt us until we have overwhelming emotions. Hence, we tend to feel hopeless.
According to a Licensed Clinical Social Work, and Therapist, Sally R. Connolly:
a. Feeling of worthlessness
Asking our self-worth is one of the most difficult questions for us human beings. This is a kind of self-doubt where one is experiencing low self-esteem. A situation of losing confidence in many aspects.
Going back, I’m just lying on my bed thinking about my value as a person. It was hard to escape and I found myself crying every night and feeling some pain for no reason. There were times I felt excessive guilt that made me feel I was a bad person. A lot of questions asked me like: What if I’m worthless?
a. Thinking of killing yourself
Suicidal thoughts are not just random some people do. There’s a root deep down inside that we don’t know. Maybe they want to stop the feeling of being a burden and worrying about the uncertain future. During the darkest moment of my life, I also tried to kill myself because I thought the only solution to let go of my generalized anxiety disorder was to end my life.
In conclusion, anxiety is not a joke because it can damage our mental health. It is alarming not to take it seriously, because a simple feeling of anxiousness can lead us to death. Therefore, we should check each other to save one another from the powerful forces of negativity.
